Speck Laptop Backpacks
Review by Angie Kibiloski
Speck has been one of my favorite case companies for several years, with stunning cases for a variety of phone and tablet models, as well as larger bags for other devices. Their designs are always both durable and aesthetically interesting. Last month they launched a brand new line of laptop backpacks that combine fashion and function, to create top quality transportation for all your mobile devices. Each of the 5 new styles, ranging from $49.99 to $69.99, can be perfect for both adults on the go and kids off to school.
Starting with the 2 models geared more towards professional adults, we have the Laptop Business Backpack, and the Laptop Business Messenger Bag, both in sleek black with blue accents. The Backpack cushions a 15” laptop with shock-absorbing Viz Air bumpers to keep it safe even when sitting on the floor of, say, a busy coffee shop or airline terminal. This padded compartment zips open flat to go easily through airport security. This model also has 2 other large compartments to hold all your other devices and accessories. For comfort and convenience, this Backpack has mesh foam back padding, organizational pockets in the front compartment, and pass-through cord ports for easy device charging. The Messenger Bag has room for a 17.3” laptop in the padded sleeve pocket, as well as ample space for other devices in the larger middle compartment, and convenient organizational pockets in the small front flap. It also features a convertible back sleeve, which can be used to secure the bag over a rolling luggage handle, or zip closed to become an additional pocket. Along with water resistant materials on the bottom, and a padded adjustable shoulder strap, this Messenger Bag is perfect for the business traveler.
The remaining 3 models are geared more towards students, whatever age they may be, with smaller, lighter, and more colorful designs. The Stingray Backpack is the most lightweight of the bunch, with a padded laptop sleeve, for 15” laptops, which suspends your device above the bottom of the bag for added protection. It has one other large compartment for books, binders, or other devices, a smaller zip pocket for phones or other useful items, and 2 elastic side pouches for water bottles. It comes in 4 color combinations: white and black, gray and green, pink and gray, or orange and gray. The Deck Backpack would be the next step up, with a slightly sturdier build. Also fitting a 15” laptop, this model comes with a padded, suspended laptop sleeve, a large center compartment with organizing pockets, a smaller front pocket, and an extra side zipping pouch for easy stowing on the go. It also features cushioned handles and mesh foam back padding for comfort. It comes in 3 color combinations: white and black, gray and green, or orange and gray. Finally, the Kargo Backpack is the model that bridges school days and business days, combining the lighter form with a bit of added function. The Kargo has a 17” laptop compartment that zips all the way flat for easy travel through airport security, 2 other spacious compartments, and a side zip pouch, for all of your other device carrying needs. It has pass-through ports, cushioned handles, and mesh foam back padding. It comes in 3 color combinations: white and black, orange and gray, and a very attractive blue and gray.
Year after year, over all their case types, Speck impresses me with their quality, innovation, and attention to detail. If you’re in the market for a stylish and functional new laptop backpack, I urge you to consider this great company.
