IBM ThinkPad R32 Series Notebooks
In June, 2002, IBM announced their new line of ThinkPad R32 series notebook computers for both the small business and education market. Prices for the ThinkPad R32 range from $1449 to $1669. ThinkPad R series notebooks blend portability and essential features--all at an attractive entry price. These notebooks are for frequently mobile users who want easy, ready-to-run computing.
While many publications did quick reviews on these units, Computer Times decided to put the ThinkPad R32 series to an exhaustive test by placing them in the hands of online instructors, IT experts and students at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky. We are pleased to report that the ThinkPad R32 passed every test in all areas, including an unplanned 5-foot drop to concrete, a tumble down a small flight of steps, and a small liquid spill onto the keyboard (the unit was immediately powered down).
Performance features
ThinkPad R Series are packed with performance features, including a sleek design, a large and bright XGA TFT display, and the power of the Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor-M (select models).
Wireless done right
Designed for flexibility, select ThinkPad R Series notebooks are Wi-Fi wireless upgradable and include the dual-antenna system for increased signal strength. An optional Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b Mini PCI by IBM provides easy integration with Cisco networks. The optional Intel® PRO/Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card is also available.

Maximize uptime and productivity
Rapid Restore PC software, which you can download from IBM (pre-installed on select models), can help increase uptime, reduce IT costs and easily recover information. Rapid Restore PC provides a hassle-free one button (F11 key) recovery solution that lets you restore previously saved data, applications and operating systems if a crash occurs due to a virus or errant application. A full system recovery can occur in as little as 15-20 minutes, helping save IT managers and CTOs time and resources and increase productivity for end users.
IBM offers the most secure industry-standard PC
Select models include the feature-rich TCPA-compliant Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0, which helps provide the highest level of PC security. A unique feature of this subsystem is the IBM Client Security software (available by download). It helps provide user authentication, data protection and more secure communications when used in conjunction with a third-party digital certificate (not included).
Keep working in low-light conditions
ThinkPad notebooks are the only notebook family with the ThinkLight™ keyboard light. Located on the top edge of the display, this tiny LED illuminates your keyboard to let you work in low-light conditions.
Optimized for connectivity
Select models have up to five built-in communications capabilities: Wi-Fi wireless27, Bluetooth™ technology, Ethernet, 56K V.924-designed modem and integrated IrDA port. All models come with RJ-45 and RJ-11 ports.
Expandability
An integrated, easy-loading modular bay allows for fast swapping of optional Ultrabay 2000 devices. Ultrabay Plus options, including a second optional battery, are available for Ultrabay Plus (R32 models). These options provide additional expansion capability so you can tailor your notebook.
