FROM THE EXECUTIVE EDITOR - November, 1999

Sher Bolter AKA "REDGLASSES" was murdered as he worked at home on his computer, shot in the head through the outside door. No apparent motive, nothing taken, no one seen leaving the scene. All Sher left in the world were his two "pups" that were his only children, a 91-year-old aunt whose mind is sharper than mine on most days, and many friends and associates who mourn his death.

Sher was a contributing editor to Computer Times as well as a friend of the editors. In his memory, Computer Times has established the Sher Bolter "REDGLASSES" Memorial Scholarship Fund to assist a young person in attaining an education in computer science.

Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do bad things happen at all? Why was Sher murdered? Why? Why? Why? This is the question that has resounded from around the world as word has leaked out about his death. Life is not fair. We don't know why. We can't change it. We can't bring him back, but we do miss him.

The 20th anniversary of COMDEX will be held in Las Vegas this month, and that is where REDGLASSES will be missed sorely. His loud, colorful clothes, his red spectacles, his ear-to-ear smile, and especially his REDGLASSES exclusive style BS that he shoveled out to everyone he met, won't be there roaming the huge floor. Instead, we, the editors of Computer Times, Terrance and Charlene, will roam COMDEX in his honor, sharing stories about him and trying to shovel as much BS as we can in our humble attempt to imitate the greatest BS'er of them all. We love you, Sher. You better be knowing that.

PROMINENT COMPUTER INDUSTRY EDITOR REDGLASSES

MURDERED WHILE WORKING AT COMPUTER

BARDSTOWN, KY, Sept. 28, 1999 - Computer Times' Editor Terrance Kibiloski and Executive Editor Charlene Jones, both long time friends of Sher "REDGLASSES" Bolter, have issued this joint statement concerning the horrible murder of REDGLASSES:

Sher Bolter, better known throughout the computer industry as REDGLASSES, a name derived from his red-framed eye glasses and who was famous for his REDGLASSES Party List at industry trade shows like COMDEX and PC EXPO, was brutally murdered on Friday, September 24, 1999 while he worked at his computer in his home office in Louisville, KY.

According to reports, Bolter was shot in the head by an unknown assassin shooting from outside. The bullet pierced the aluminum screen door of Bolter's home office. Although neighbors heard a loud sound just before 9 p.m. Friday evening, no one saw or heard anyone leave the scene. Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Sam Weakley said REDGLASSES died at 3:22 a.m. Saturday at University of Louisville Hospital of a single gunshot wound in the head.

REDGLASSES was the founder and editor of The Corporate Journal and a contributing editor on a regular basis to Computer Times. He tested software and hardware for the computer industry and wrote reviews for various publications nationally. He founded a non-profit organization to assist children.

Editor Terrance Kibiloski states, "I am still in shock at the news of Sher's death. I received an e-mail concerning an assignment he was working on for Computer Times less than 7 hours before he was shot."

Executive Editor Charlene Jones adds, "There will never be another REDGLASSES - he was one of the most colorful characters I have ever met but with a heart of gold. The computer industry will sorely miss him."

Graveside services were held on Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m. at the Temple Cemetery in Lousiville, KY.

REDGLASSES PARTY LIST FOR COMDEX FALL'99

BARDSTOWN, KY, Oct. 2, 1999 - Computer Times' Editor Terrance Kibiloski and Executive Editor Charlene Jones, long time friends of Sher "REDGLASSES" Bolter, will continue the REDGLASSES Party List at COMDEX Fall '99 as a tribute and memorial to REDGLASSES who was brutally murdered on Friday September 24, 1999. (Earlier press release at http://computertimes.com). In conjunction with the party list, Computer Times has established a Sher Bolter "REDGLASSES" Memorial Scholarship Fund to help underprivileged youth get a business/computer education.

Jones said, "One-hundred percent of the money contributed to this fund will be used toward the scholarship. Computer Times will administer the fund as a labor of love, continuing the dream of Sher who was always willing to help those in need." She continued, "At Sher's graveside service, Sher's friends exchanged stories of how he unselfishly helped people, whether it was buying a jeep with a snowplow for the sole purpose of clearing his neighborhood's streets following a major blizzard, taking food to an elderly neighbor, or building a computer for a friend. The stories of Sher's generosity seemed endless and even surprised members of his family."

"The computer industry and media, as they mourn his death, have indicated via phone calls and e-mail that they would like some way of honoring this man who was so "genuine" and encouraged us to establish the Sher Bolter "REDGLASSES" Memorial Scholarship Fund," says Kibiloski. Pat Meier of Pat Meier Associates P.R. of San Francisco (patmeier@patmeier.com) responded to the memorial scholarship fund immediately saying, "I am still stunned...who would do such a thing! Please contact Terrance and place an ad [on the REDGLASSES COMDEX Party List] in memory of Sher and all the kindness and love he shared with us...please contribute an ad in the value of $500."

To join Pat Meier and Computer Times in honoring REDGLASSES, please send information for the COMDEX Fall'99 party invitations to Jones at exedctimes@aol.com for inclusion on the REDGLASSES PARTY LIST. Vendors sponsoring the party may include a REDGLASSES humorous comment about their party which will be printed with their ad. All advertisements on the REDGLASSES PARTY LIST will be considered as contributions to the Sher Bolter "REDGLASSES" Memorial Scholarship Fund. All memorials will be listed on the REDGLASSES PARTY LIST. Contributions can be sent to PO Box 939, Bardstown, KY 40004 or c/o Computer Times, 3206 Kings Court, Bardstown KY 40004.
