Ghost Town Materializing Soon on Meta Quest
Ghost Town Materializing Soon on Meta Quest

Ghost Town is the upcoming new VR title from Fireproof Games, and I can hardly contain my excitement! Fireproof Games is the developer behind the 5-title, atmospheric puzzle-adventure game series, The Room, in which you solve intricate environmental and tactile puzzles to unravel mysteries and escape each scenario. The 5th installment was a VR title called The Room VR: A Dark Matter, which I spent so many enjoyable hours engrossed in over several months in 2020. Ever since then, I’ve been craving another VR offering from them, and I’m about to get my wish. Ghost Town is materializing very soon on Meta Quest, Steam VR and PS VR, and I cannot wait!
Like their other titles, Ghost Town is a single-player puzzle-solving adventure, filled with intriguing mystery, challenging puzzles, and absolutely gorgeous environments. If this game meets my expectations, which are high after The Room VR: A Dark Matter, the puzzles will range in difficulty and variety, stretching your intellect and imagination, while drawing you further into the narrative of magic and mystery. I expect to delight in exploring each stunning environment, which I hope will be just as immersive and fantastic as in the last game, while being wrapped in a haunting soundscape. I also expect the story to grip me from the start through a shroud of mystery, each new layer I peel away drawing me closer to a satisfying narrative conclusion.
From what Fireproof Games has revealed so far, the story of Ghost Town sounds like it will center around a missing person case, with some ghost hunting and magical arts mixed in. You’ll play as Edith Penrose, a paranormal detective and ghost hunter by trade, who usually spends her time exorcising the lingering spirits of London for her clients. Oh yes, and she’s also a witch, a convenient fact which I suspect will come in quite handy during puzzle solving. Her life gains new purpose when her brother disappears, and she must set out to discover what happened, find his whereabouts, and use her magical skills to lift the veil of the unseen, and conquer all manor of mystical puzzles that confront her along the way.
The mechanics of Ghost Town, if they’re anything like The Room VR: A Dark Matter, will focus a lot on manipulating items with both hands, looking in every dark corner for bits and pieces that fit into puzzles, unlock doors, or summon otherworldly forces, and getting your virtual steps in when a puzzle has you utterly stumped, revisiting all those dark corners again and again for anything you may have missed. It sounds like you may be interacting with a variety of characters this time around, both living and ghostly, which is a departure from previous titles where you were mostly left to your own inner monologue, except during transitional narration. Spell casting seems to be a part of things as well, calling on Edith’s witchy experience, which was present in small part in the last game, though most actions were based around solid object manipulation. I’m looking forward to this aspect playing a bigger role here.
When I say I’m excited to play Ghost Town, what I really mean is that I’m absolutely giddy, practically bouncing on my toes in anticipation. There’s no fixed release date yet, but I will be keeping my eyes peeled wide for that announcement, and hope that it isn’t too far in the future. I will, without any doubt, be playing this game and bringing you a full review as soon as possible. Until then, check out all the available game info on the Fireproof Games website, as well as links to download any of the previous 5 The Room series titles, watch the trailer, then go ahead and Wish List it for Meta Quest, Steam VR, or PS VR.
